Matala Festival 2011
“The Hippie Guitar”
The Matala Festival, held every summer since 2011, is a revival of the ’70s hippie spirit of Matala in south Crete,
with three days of music and other events.
On Saturday 11 June 2011, half a ton of natural clay was transported to Matala beach,
where it was sculpted and painted into the guitar you see here.
The details on the guitar reflect aspects of the original hippy lifestyle, and also how the former hippies have ended up today.
