Gala by the Archaeological Institude of America (AIA)
New York,April 28,2009
“For fifteen years in his studio in Heraklion, Crete, artist Vassilis Politakis has worked to understand and recreate the work of Bronze Age potters of the Aegean and Cyprus and recapture the characteristics, style, and spirit of their pottery.
Using floral decoration on vessels from the palace of Knossos, Crete, Politakis has brought these ancient craftsmen to you in the form and style of this amphora. To give the vase an even more authentic feel, it was broken and then reconstructed, with missing pieces replaced with plaster as is done in the most careful conservation laboratories and museums. A rare chance to hold the art of the ancient world in your hands.”
